still looking for someone to follow me and for me to follow.
navigating this blog is a learning experience.

right now my husband and youngest grandson are rolling around on the living room rug. they are best buddies and have so much fun together.
we are so blessed.....we have 6 grandchildren.
3 boys and 3 girls....too much fun.

back to the business at hand. we will be setting up for the wedding show tomorrow. today my son and my husband loaded the trailer.....what a job. the heat is sweltering and the humidity is off the charts..
i have found a huge field of wild bamboo growing with the greenery still on it. i cut (my husband cut) an armload to be used in the arrangements for the show.
we also, cut back our saga palms for added greenery.

the silver is polished, the linens are ironed... the trailer is loaded , now we wait.....
tomorrow will be a long and fun day.
we will keep you posted on how things go....or better yet, come out and see the show.

is anyone out there. i want to connect with someone.

today my partner and i networked all day long. we had a wonderful consultation with Barry of Blossom's here in Murrells Inlet. he also has opened a branch office in the downtown area of Charleston. Barry is very successful and fun to talk with. he was very generous and shared all types of interesting information about the wedding business. we are so grateful for his time and his generosity.

next we visited with a wonderful lady at the Pine Lakes Country Club. she showed us around the new renovations there at the club and offered some advice, too. we appreciated all the time she spent with us and will certainly use her expert suggestions.

we love weddings and would love to get our foot in the door of the wedding market here at the beach. follow us as we walk through the process of starting a new wedding business.
watch us design our business cards; develop our brochure; write and rewrite our wedding packages; step forward with a web site; blog and twitter: we are on new ground and sometimes we feel like the ground may give way.....but push on we will in search of the perfect wedding.

so someone, anyone, let me know you are out there.
you can learn along with us, as we discover where we belong and what our niche will be.
God bless and Good night!

Debbie and I spent the day with a photographer and a model yesterday taking awesome shots of a bride at many local venues. Events on the Half Shell specializes in the unique. We search out venues that will make a statement to the world for every bride. Check out our new photos that are coming soon.

Marinas, the Inlet, boats and yachts, bluffs overlooking the waterway, outdoor chapels and small, quaint and old chapels. all are here at the beach...

Hope to see you at the Wedding Show Sunday August 23rd at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center from 1-5pm. come see us there.

We have some "pearls" for you!

the wedding show

we are working to prepare for the wedding show in Myrtle Beach on August 23rd at the MB Convention center. this will be our first show, so we are dotting our i's and crossing our t's. we spent the day tweaking our brochure and gathering information.
we have 5 beautiful wedding dresses that we are going to have Debbie's daughter model for a photo shoot. each will be worn at a different venue so brides can see themseleves getting married in the many unique places we have here at the beach.
Debbie and a friend came up with the idea to take the photos. it is our goal, for all brides to see themselves standing on the steps, or wading in the water, or riding in the boat, etc.
the one-of-a-kind weddings a bride can have here in Murrells Inelt are limitless.
we look forward to presenting new ideas and venues to our brides.

starting from scratch, means you must "invent the wheel." meaning, everything we do, is the first time it has been done....by us anyway. once all the brochures, pamphlets, business cards, websites, etc. are in place, then we will have a model to go by.
we are learning so much. and are having to unlearn so much, too.

but the one thing that we know that we do not need to learn is that people like to be treated with respect and kindness. they like to be heard. i pray they will walk away from working with us and be able to say, they felt valued by Events on the Half Shell. that they received wonderful care. we want every bride to have a wonderful experience and to be stress free and pleased with the event itself.
so let the odyssey begin!

Starting a new business at the age of 57 is really a stretch. especially, for someone who is not able to stretch as well as i once could.
I have a partner named Debbie who is a little younger, so that voids out my limitations.

Debbie is the pretty one with the elegance and grace of a true hostess. I am the one that laughs too loud and loves to hug. together, we make a great team.
she uses one side of her brain while i use the other. (organization plus ceativity). a winning combination.
our husbands are our biggest fans. they also do a lot of hauling and carrying. we could not do it without them. thanks guys!

starting a new business in this economy has broadened our horizons. there is so much to do. Debbie's skills really kick in here. she knows how to cut through all the red tape and who to call when pursuing the right infomation, paperwork, etc.

my gifts are in the hunting and gathering area. i am a great scavenger. i can find things for a real deal, and i can use things that others would not think of. i also, know how to recycle. this habit of mine sometimes drives those around me crazy, because i always have a "mess" out, but there is a method to my maddness.
i have to see things to be able to use them. i can not have things packed away, completely out of site. if i do, i will not dream of a new way to use them.
junk stores and dollar stores are my favorite haunts. you never know what treasures you will find. the trick is to purchase them right then.....even though you do not have a present purpose for them. (this sometimes scares my partner, because she sees money going out and nothing flowing the other way....) but a deal is a deal, and you must take advantage of it.
just keep these treasures in the back of your mind and something will come up.

i call it the well. i love to go to the well......all kinds of fun, silly things that add just the right punch.
there is nothing worse than a dry well. i hate it.
always over buy, too. when you think you need 10 get another 2 or 3. you'll be glad you did.

the well includes such items as napkins, candles, ribbon, etc. you need a supply handy at all times.
another important stash, is your tool/supply box. this needs to be with you where ever you go. make sure you have extra everything in there. you need to be prepared for anything. nothing is more frustrating than having to stop and go back for more, yuk!!!!

I just spent 2 wonderful days preparing for an August wedding show in Myrtle Beach, SC. Events on the Half Shell will be unveiling our custom made 7 foot "shell cross". All the shells were lovingly gathered along the Garden City and Surfside Beaches here in South Carolina.

My partner, Debbie, and I worked tirelessly, assembling them so each was placed in just the right spot for the enjoyment of our brides and their families. Just imagine a beach wedding with a majestic shell cross standing behind your minster as you and your groom look out over the ocean. Visualize the breathtaking inlet with the cross fading into the sunset. All can be yours, by contacting Events on the Half Shell in Murrells Inlet, SC (right beside Myrtle Beach). We specialize in beach and inlet weddings, recommitment ceremonies, and more.
For a customized wedding, we are here for you!
Everything just for YOU!!

if you are a wedding or party planner, be sure to take special care in storing your decor. we have been reevaluating our storage situation and are very pleased with the changes we have made. it takes a little more time initially, but the end result is amazing.
Reuse, recycle everything you can.
it is good for the client (they get more for their money), it is good for your business (saves so much money) and it is good for the environment (less thrown away).
don't waste anything you can use again.
just repackage it. represent it. get creative.....
your bride will be so pleased...and you will be able to do so much more for your client...
Hello Brides.....come to the beach in South Carolina for the wedding of your dreams. let Events on the Half Shell do all the busy work....
Enjoy a stress free dream wedding....
